Project Gotham Racing (PGR), the incredibly fun and balanced Xbox racer, has arrived on the mobile racing scene in two slightly different versions.  The two editions are almost identical with some exceptions, the largest of them being the graphical quality as one is 2D and the other 3D.

One question that gamers must always ask themselves when a popular franchise is brought over to mobile is whether the original experience is transferred over correctly. I think that most of the times expectations should be changed to enjoy the game properly. That’s not to say that expectations should be lowered in this case, just that wireless definitely has some limitations over the home consoles. With that said, Project Gotham Racing is a very worthwhile addition to the mobile racing genre.

The game recreates the Kudos points system from the console version where you receive points for style and risk-taking such as drifting, jumps and close calls. You start by purchasing either a Honda NSX or a Corvette but these aren’t the only vehicles available.  Others you can plop down your hard-earned cash for are a Ford GT, an Aston Martin Vanquish, a Lamborghini Gallardo, and a Toyota GT-One, amongst others.

To earn the cash to buy these babies you must play through the Solo Career that consists of many different challenges besides your standard street race.  Some of these challenges include Drift, in which you must earn a certain amount of Kudos by drifting before the allotted time is over, a One-on-One race against an adversary, Cone Challenges, in which you run through cones whilst avoiding contact with them, or simply running a timed lap.  The variety of game play here helps to keep the game from becoming stagnant.

If you really want to earn some cash, however, you’re going to have to rack up Kudos by drifting and avoiding crashes. As always, you could be knee deep in a drift combo only to strike a wall or racer and lose those 3000 points.  (I had some hair-pulling moments for sure.)  The racing is sharp with fast-moving vehicles and aggressive opponents.  To command the vehicle, only one hand is needed for steering and drifting.
