We promised there would be a number of mini golf games to be released for wireless phones this year and, thankfully, they just keep getting better and better. Jamdat Mini Golf is the latest entry into the world of mobile putt-putt and it’s by far the most gorgeous of them all.

Jamdat Mini Golf includes 1-Player, 2-Player and Practice game modes. Each of the Player modes has up to 18 holes to putt your way through and Practice mode allows you to perfect each hole by seeking the elusive but attainable hole-in-one. Both male and female characters are available to choose from and they will essentially play alike. A scorecard will keep track of your strokes and stats will also be saved to show your performance.

Each hole is meticulously designed to include slopes, warps, water hazards and moving obstacles. (Including windmills!) While each has a set number of par strokes, they could ideally be cleared in one swing if you aim precisely. Using one-thumb controls, you can pan the camera to show the entire hole, position your ball, select the angle of your putt and direct the power of your swing. It’s fantastically simple.

The course is set in an exotic paradise that is beautifully rendered. Lush green landscapes surround the holes and flaming Tiki torches flicker. Colors provide great depth to objects and the physics play realistically. The audio has very good sound effects to accentuate the putting action and a voice-over will announce your count. Music can also be turned on or off and plays a charming tropical tune.

Jamdat Mini Golf is easily one of the simplest putt-putt games to play that also remains quite enjoyable. It is limited by having only one course to play through, but remains addicting enough to keep playing. For these reasons it should and will appeal to most gamers that are already familiar with Jamdat’s other titles such as Bowling and Tetris.
